Campaign Game

Just a quick screenshot showing the state of the current campaign game UI. This is zoomed in on a planet to show the fleets there, the UI for building new ships and the list of facilities there. It’s all very coder-art and work-in-progress. I’ll likely not do the icons myself.

It is getting there though…

  1. It looks awesome! The coder art looks fine to me (then again, I’m a coder myself!). BTW, were you planning on making the planets spin and have clouds, or just leaving them static?

  2. It looks great, I cannot wait until this comes out. It is going to get me back into GSB!

  3. Thanks for spiotting the typo, it’s fixed :D

The aim of the campaign is currently conquering the whole galaxy, so its basically all over when you turn all the territory to your race.
However, I am considering a more involved approach than this. Possibly involving upkeep costs for your fleets so you can’t just sit there, along with raids by enemy fleets on your existing territory. It’s too early to say for sure.

  4. Well, none of those games where you have to conquer every location work, because if the player can lose territory his progress actually goes backwards. It doesn’t have to go far backwards for the player to quit and reload or start again completely, cursing unhappily all the way. And once the player has enough territory, the challenge disappears completely.

How about a special boss to defeat, at one planet, like a super space station? You can’t hope to beat it at first and you need to be first to destroy it in order to win. If the boss suffers persistent damage and has to repair itself over several turns, then it could, indeed, be made strong enough to take on several fleets – one after another.
