Gratuitous Space Battles 2 is in beta at last… RIGHT NOW

Oh god the fear…game launches are terrifying. And this isn’t release day it’s beta day but still…let this trailer do some of the talking…

So yup, GSB2 is now taking pre-orders direct from my site, and this gives you access to the beta. You can grab it right now from here:

http://www.gratuitousspacebattles2.com/

Note that this is a proper beta, not some super-early-access proof of concept thing where most of it doesn’t work. In other words, most stuff works! it’s playable. Hopefully its fun! It’s PC-only and English only for now, but that will change come-release. There will of course be bugs, and myriad balance issues. And I will be adding some extra voiceover and a few other bits and pieces. But hopefully this is something you can play and enjoy right now. You get a download link, an online serial (for challenges, if you want to use them), and a steam code for its eventual steam release (the code obviously isn’t working yet).

PLEASE tell people you know about it, this is really appreciated. If you are a member of the press, please check your inbox, and if you don’t hear from us today please email me at cliff At positech etc… and I will put you in touch with *my people*. Yeah that’s right, cliffski got people now :D.

And of course, we have forums that you can go chat on and offer feedback and suggestions, criticism, maybe even some praise for things you like? and ask questions about stuff. You can log in to my forums with google or twitter or facebook, or manually sign up for an account. We also have a facebook page.

Holy cow I’m nervous. I actually feel sick.

  1. I’m all paid up now, Cliff — I wanted to be an “early bird” with this game. Was a long wait for a sequel to the inspired & moddable GSB1, and I know I won’t be disappointed.

Been looking forward to plunking down my intangibly digital but nonetheless hard-earned cash for this very promising game. I can hardly wait to play the beta – well, there goes my next several days. And weeks. And months! So excited!!! :D

  2. Mine!

Have been following Clifski ever since GSB and have been impatiently waiting for this…

I am even getting it even though I own a Mac (happy to support indie development and Clifski in particular). Fingers crossed that hopefully it works in Parallels.

    1. @Stephen F Roberts:

May you have “smooth sailing!” with Parallels. Alternatively, if you have CodeWeavers’ Crossover 13.2 or newer, that *might* also work, albeit with a potential of some hiccups.

  3. Quick question, how will updates work, and will there be updates before it goes onto steam?

    1. it does have an auto updater built in, and there will definitely be updates before steam. I’ve already fixed 3 bugs since release today, pending the next build :D

      1. Wow, that’s so awesome! I’m super excited to get into playing this game it’s installing right now! I played the first game, liked it so much I bought almost all the expansions, and have been waiting for this game for about half a year now, thank you so much for this! :D

  4. Hi Cliff :)
I’ve just played it for few hour. Still grappling on the numerous ship design options :)

    Few things I observed:
    – The engine flame on cruiser cannot be fully extended because it reaches the design area border.
    – I encounter instance when I cannot load my saved design. It’s just not shown in the list.
    – The anti fighter turret on destroyer seems to be less effective comparing in GSB1.
    – Game hung after few hours just when click deployment.

Overall, I enjoy the game. Perfect time releasing it on weekend :)

  5. The “Speed 1.0x” font in the battle in this trailer still stands out like a sore thumb (it doesn’t fit the circle and looks quite aliased). I think I mentioned this before though.
