Space Hulk

I’m testing some stuff where after a big cruiser gets blown apart, there is a drifting blackened hulk of it still floating in space (in 2 or 3 big pieces). It still needs some work but it doesn’t look so bad on a grainy video :D

If you like it, rate it :D
Cheers

  1. Shouldn’t those jets of flame coming of the rocket thrusters only fire when the ship moves? Seems odd they be “on” the whole time even when the ship is motionless or making a subtle turn.

    Just sayin’. :)

  2. Cool idea! If the dead hulk had a little more momentum to it, rotating or drifting a little more than it does in this video, it might look a little better.

  3. Amazing work, I really like where this is going.

Please make sure you don’t release this short. While the gameplay we’ve seen alone would make it worth the price, you must make the setup and objectives meaningful and interesting. Global high scores maybe? Online play? Queued strategies that you can send to your friends to see how they fight (basic user defined AI setup involved).

I love it so far and am already committed to buying it. I’d even love to beta test it for you. I am a software developer and I think I could have relevant input.

  4. looks awesome!

hey, can I ask what software you used to record the video? anybody have any good recommendations?

  5. Very cool. I also agree with the suggestions about momentum, but with a further stipulation: Model the added momentum as coming from blow-out on one of the rear engines. Catastrophic containment failure sounds like an expectable and highly entertaining finish for a ship. Just spawn an additional explosion in the area of one of the rear engines along with a brief thruster flame sprite coming from the *side* of the engine. Induce a spin and also add a translation vector opposite the explosion. You could probably model the directional vector cheaply just by doing it 1/3rd radian off from forward, on the side opposite the engine explosion.

That’s just my two bits, but forget that. The important thing is that it looks sharp and very enticing. Good luck! Keep up the good work!
